(12/07/98) A judge sentenced a 14-year old person who admitted to firing a gun at his principal to 19 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence for attempted murder. Prosecutors said that the person shot a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol at the principal at the beginning of the school day.
The teen's attorney said that the person was angry at the principal for speaking to him about looking "sloppy" and had been sent home a few weeks earlier after an argument with other students.
Politicians claim that the drinking age and the driving age are necessary because teenagers are not aware of the consequences of their actions. If they actually believed teenagers were immature, then they would not allow them to be sentenced to 19 years in prison.
This type of sentencing reinforces our belief that Republican and Democrat politicians know that teenagers are aware of the consequences of their actions. These politicians merely use age as an excuse to take away the rights of teenagers.
Vote for Libertarian politicians who will crush the government's hypocrisy by treating all teenagers as rational human beings and make them responsible for all of their actions. If they want to drink a beer, then they'll get a hangover, and if they want to shoot people, then they're going to prison for a long time.
